Silver Daisy

Flowers, shorelines
& small silver discoveries.

A daisy opening its petals, the spiral of an ammonite, a piece of glass softened by the sea. Katy Cook brings these small details into jewellery made by hand in her St Albans studio.

Her collections range from bright silver and warm gold to sea glass and colourful gemstone rings. There is a common thread: an interest in the shapes and textures that make nature worth a closer look.

THE DETAILS THAT DRAW US IN

From petal to parcel

Nature in the design, a maker at the bench and the finishing touches that accompany each piece.

A flower in silver and gold

Saw-pierced silver petals, gently domed, with tiny gold stamens. The daisy appears across pendants, rings and earrings, taking a slightly different form each time.

Something of the shoreline

Frosted glass, shell ridges and fossil spirals lend their own shapes to Katy’s coastal pieces. Silver frames the glass while open settings let its colour catch the light.

The story continues beyond the bench. Katy packs each order with a jewellery care card and polishing cloth, so the first unwrapping comes with a little help for looking after the piece.

THE STORY BEHIND SILVER DAISY

An unexpected beginning

In 2005, with her accountancy qualifications completed, Katy signed up for a jewellery course. She expected beadwork. Instead, she found hammers, saws and the possibilities of working in silver.

That first class grew into training in precious metal clay and diplomas in fine jewellery. Today, traditional silversmithing and silver clay both have a place in her work.

The bench is still where she finds space to focus: tools close to hand, a design taking shape and time given to the details.

A PLACE TO MAKE

Spend time at the bench

Katy shares her studio skills through silver clay and silversmithing classes. Start with a set of stacking rings, explore leaf impressions in silver clay, or build your knowledge over an eight-week course.

In the introductory silver clay workshop, you can roll, texture and shape your own design before it is fired, polished and made ready to wear. Small groups leave room for questions and individual guidance along the way.

Workshops take place in St Albans. Each listing sets out the experience level and what is included; the second-floor studio is reached by stairs, with no lift.
