Rockpool Jewellery

On the North East coast, in her studio in Whitley Bay, Joanne Hunt creates jewellery that carries the texture, symbolism and ever-changing beauty of the shoreline. Through Rockpool Jewellery, she translates the sea into pieces of silver and gold that feel tactile, story-led and deeply personal.

Her work invites a closer look, much like a rockpool itself. Surface texture, hidden detail and small coastal forms all play a part in jewellery that feels discovered rather than simply designed.

Crafted in Silver and Gold

Using carving and lost wax casting, Joanne creates jewellery rich in hand-formed detail. Her process allows her to capture the textures and irregularities that make coastal forms so compelling, preserving them in silver and gold with a sculptural, tactile finish.

Jewellery for Those Drawn to the Coast

Rockpool Jewellery will speak especially to anyone who feels at home by the sea, but Joanne’s pieces go beyond simple coastal references. They are about individuality, memory and the treasures we gather through life. Whether chosen for a special milestone or simply for the feeling they hold, her designs have a way of becoming personal very quickly.

Made with Renewal in Mind

Joanne’s respect for the natural world sits within both her inspiration and her materials. She works with recycled silver and gold and uses ethically sourced or recovered gemstones, seeing this as a nod to renewal and to the constant change of the ocean itself.

Modern Heirlooms and New Stories

Alongside her core collections, Joanne also offers bespoke work, from personalising existing designs with engravings or alternative birthstones to creating fully bespoke pieces from scratch. Her bespoke process is collaborative and thoughtful, designed around vision, budget and story, whether someone is commissioning a single piece or a full set of jewels.

There is a strong sense of heirloom thinking in her work. Joanne speaks about jewellery as something that marks a moment, reflects personal style and gathers meaning over time. Her one-of-a-kind Treasures and bespoke commissions are created not just to be worn now, but to be cherished and passed on.

Giving Gems a New Life

An important part of Joanne’s practice is her use of reused gemstones. Salvaged from unworn or unwanted jewellery, these stones are brought into new designs so they can begin another chapter. For Joanne, there is something especially meaningful about a gemstone already carrying history, then becoming part of a new story and eventually an heirloom again.

She also offers clients the opportunity to remodel their own unworn jewellery, reworking existing gems into something new and deeply personal. It is a thoughtful approach to making that connects sentiment, sustainability and craftsmanship in a very natural way.

This is jewellery with texture, symbolism and soul, shaped by the shoreline and made to tell a story.

The sea is more than an aesthetic influence in Joanne’s work; it is a place of solace, inspiration and meaning. That connection runs through every collection, from rolling waves and weathered driftwood to rugged rocks, shifting sandbanks and her signature barnacle motif.

The barnacle has become especially significant. For her, it represents the quirks, traits and collected layers that make each person who they are. Rather than something to smooth away, these “barnacles” are a form of beauty in themselves, and her jewellery is designed to honour exactly that.
